Two areas of testing: Force or Energy??
Force will be related to centripetal force. The gravitational field strength g is the centripetal acceleration. Very neat as no other force involved . This theory will be employed in satellites , moons or planetary systems that are said to be in orbit.
The energy aspect will be change in potential energy which will require specifically from where to where? Each location from a planet will have value that tell us how much energy required to remove unit mass from that point to infinity. Therefore the difference in value between two locations will be the energy involved to move a unit mass from one location to the other.
