1. 10.2 ms*-1 . If you forget there is intial kinetic energy you will end up with a wrong answer 9.9 ms*-1.
aii) Linear speed will be smaller as some energy is converted into heat and hence has a lower kinetic energy at B.
Note: Not necessary to use words like non conservative forces .
aiii) Decide on B being the initial and C being the final. W is on the right hand side of equation. Hence W =(KE+PE)at B = (KE+PE) at C = 0.5(30) (10.2)*2- 30(9.81)(2) = 972J .
Note: using the formula W = change in KE + change in PE is not advisable . Here there is negative for loss in KE and positive for gain in PE.
