Test review on circular motion
1. The limits of the speed are found at the top and bottom of the motion. At the top , the minimum speed is found when equating tension greater than zero. AT the bottom , the maximum speed is found when equating tension less than 150 N. The answer is speed less than 4.48 ms-1 and greater than 2.21 ms-1.
2. Using conservation of energy , the speed at the top is found to be 14.3 ms-1. The condition , reaction greater than zero would require the speed to be greater than 7.0 ms-1. Hence tha passenger is able to remain in contact as the speed si 14.3 ms-1 is greater than the min speed of 7.0 ms-1.
3.A free body for each of the masses must be drawn. The furthest body A, Ta = mw2r = 1.20 N. For B, Tb - Ta = mw2r, Tb = 2.0 N, For C, Tc - Tb = mw2r, Tc = 2.4 N .
The lack of free body diagrams contributed to serious errors made here.
4. Resolving P into components, such that Pcos 32 = mg , hence P = 5.78x105 N. The component P sin 32 would be towards the centre O, hence mark out O.
